Accommodation on Santa Maria Island (Ilha de Santa Maria).

This island in the Azores was the first to be discovered by the Portuguese explorers which ocured in 1427.
It is an island of white whashed houses in green fields which turn to yellow as the crops ripen.
It has many coves and sandy beaches, a spectacular landscape and a temperate climate throughout the year.
Volcanic activity has left 'furnas', in the lava. These are deep chasms and tunnels, some of which can be visited with a guide.
Big game fishing is available at the coastal communites in the island.
